Meet Your Director

Fuquay-Varina native Tommy Broadwell was named Executive Director of the Fuquay-Varina Chamber of Commerce on March 19, 2010.

Steve Ashworth, the Chamber Board of Director Chair, said that “it’s nice to have someone who has such close ties to our community”. Since Mr. Broadwell has been the Executive Director he finds special time to visit Chamber members and others in the business community noting that he wants the Chamber’s first priority to be serving its members as best it can.

Mr. Broadwell goes on to say that ‘we want to create the best possible business climate in the community’. He wants to work more closely with the Town and other groups whose aim is the same as the Chambers - to improve life in Fuquay-Varina.

Tommy, as he is known to his family, friends and co-workers, has lived his whole life in Fuquay-Varina. He graduated Campbell University then, following a family tradition, raised tobacco and operated a dairy farm for 20 years. He subsequently worked with Farm Credit for several years, then with BB&T in commercial lending.

He left the bank five years ago because his mother's health was declining and he was needed to help with her care. He also started a small housing development at Johnson Point that he wanted to oversee.

He served two terms (six years) on the Town’s Planning and Zoning Board and has served on other Town Committees.

Board Chair Ashworth claims, ‘the Chamber found the best person to serve as Executive Director, a local man who never chose to leave his hometown’.

Tommy is married to Nancy and they live here in Fuquay-Varina.
